Marie Therese Fanning

Marie Therese Fanning has worked for over ten years in NGOs both in Ireland and overseas, specifically for UNHCR in Geneva and Trócaire in Rwanda. She now runs her own coaching and mentoring service under the name of ‘Walk Tall Coaching’. Her clients include small start-up organisations as well as individuals seeking to change career or improve their impact at work. Before going full time into coaching and mentoring she was part of the Executive Management team at Comhlámh where her work involved both programme and team management. She is acutely aware of the challenges facing NGOs in terms of keeping the emphasis on strategy and in managing the work load of staff. At International Volunteer Day in the Mansion House her contribution to Comhlámh was publicly acknowledged.

She is a qualified, accredited and insured coach and is under supervision. She is a member of the Association for Coaching, Ireland, the Psychological Society of Ireland – Coaching Psychology Group and the Institute of Leadership and Management, UK. She holds a Masters in Management and Organisation Systems specialising in change management from UCD, a BA (Hons) in Business Studies and a diploma in personnel management.

She has extensive experience in facilitating workshops and in debriefing development workers. She also provides advice on a variety of issues such as careers in development and the management of critical incidents for organisations. Previously, she facilitated on DTalk’s Initial Preparation Course and Comhlámh’s preparation, reorientation and debriefing programmes.
