Dr. Carol Wrenn is the Gender Equality Programme Advisor for Trócaire. She obtained her Ph.D in Anthropology from the National University of Ireland, Maynooth and her MSc in Development Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. Her Ph.D research focused on tribal women’s political empowerment in rural India and she has ten years experience in working in local and international organisations on gender equality, women’s empowerment, gender based violence, policy and advocacy.
Through her work she has supported the implementation of Equality Policies and Strategies and built staff capacity in supporting women’s empowerment, addressing inequality and in prevention and response to Gender Based Violence (GBV) in countries such as Sierra Leone, Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, Chad, India, Pakistan, Myanmar, Bangladesh and Honduras. She has also supported gender mainstreaming within Humanitarian, Governance, Livelihoods, HIV, Education and Health programmes globally.
Her research and areas of professional interest include women’s rights, gender equality, gender based violence and international politics. She has published articles in journals including the Irish Journal of Anthropology and Policy and Practice: A Development Education Review.
