Eimear Burke (RGN, MSc. Couns.Psych, Reg. Psychol., AFPsSI, MIACP) is a teaching associate at Kimmage DSC and lectures in Human Development. She also lectures on the BA programme in MS-TCDC in Arusha, Tanzania.
Eimear has been working as a counselling psychologist in private practice for the past 18 years, dealing with a variety of psychological problems including post traumatic stress disorder. Eimear is a consultant for Ruhama, providing psychological assessments for women who have been trafficked. She was a group facilitator in the SKY (Sudanese Kilkenny Youth) project which helps Sudanese adolescent refugees integrate into Kilkenny.
She has consulted to a wide range of organisations both in Ireland and overseas in the areas of personal effectiveness and well-being, stress management, group dynamics, assertiveness, counselling and supervisory skills, leadership, team-building and conflict management. She has also provided Employee Assistance programmes to a number of multi-national companies.
She has worked in Lesotho, Southern Africa as a training consultant in team development and stress management. She has also worked as a nurse in primary health care in Turkana, Kenya. Eimear is the Chairperson of the Childcare Advisory Committee and a member of the Board of Barretstown which is a specially designed camp providing therapeutic recreation programmes for children with serious illness and their families.
