Evening Courses

Classroom Photo Resized 2015Kimmage DSC is offering a growing number of evening courses. These courses are aimed both at those new to development and practitioners in the sector.


Our Understanding Development course aims to assist participants to enhance their understanding of the problems and possibilities of development in developing countries. It is intended for anyone concerned with development issues for reasons of work, active support or personal interest. Participants have the option to undertake the full Understanding Development course or can opt to take just one term. Terms run in Autumn and Spring. The next term, Contemporary Issues in Development, commences in January 2018.

Another evening course offered is Introduction to Humanitarian Emergencies. This course is open to those who are keen to learn more about what actually happens in Emergencies, as well as those working in government or aid organisations who are head office based and involved in some aspect of Emergencies i.e. in fundraising, public relations, awareness raising or development education. Please note that this course takes place in Comhlámh, Dublin 2 and is offered subject to a minimum number of participants.

We have also introduced the Introduction to Public Health in Humanitarian Emergencies course.This eight week course provides participants with an introduction to the key aspects of Public Health in a range of emergency situations. This course is of particular interest to those who have completed our Humanitarian Emergencies course but is also open to members of the general public with an interest in the area and those working in aid.

We also now offer MA Component Courses in the evening for those who are unable to attend our MA Programme on a full-time basis.These modules can be taken as part of our Flexible and Distance Learning MA in International Development, as a fully accredited single subject module or on a not for credit basis. This semester we are running both Sociology of Development and Introduction to Political Economy of Development in the evening, in addition to modules run during the day.
