Fr John Kilcrann has been a member of the Provincial Leadership Team of the Spiritan Congregation in Ireland since September 2012. He has a BA and HDip from UCD, a BD from the Pontifical University in Maynooth and a diploma in development studies from KDSC. In 1988 he completed an MA at Fordham University, New York and in 2000 he finished a doctoral degree at the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago.
Fr Kilcrann has spent 20 years working in the Dioceses of Marilia, Registro and Osasco, Brazil (from 1978 to 1998). This work included providing extensive support to the Comissão Pastoral da Terrra in Marilia and Registro while also serving as Founding President of SEJUP, a news agency specializing in communicating Brazilian human rights issues to an English-speaking international audience.
Fr Kilcrann has also acted as an advisor to various Brazilian national organizations specializing in human rights including OAB (Human rights section), MOAB, JUSSOL and MST. From 2000 to 2009 Fr Kilcrann was Director of the Spiritans JPIC Services worldwide, based in Rome. Between 2009 and 2010 he established a human rights distance learning programme in Duquesne University, Pittsburgh and between 2010 and 2012 was director of Spiritan JPIC Services in Ireland.
